DETECTIVES from the Ondo state Police Command have rescued the
two-year-old girl kidnapped by a Pastor and one other person in Akure,
the state capital few weeks ago.
The baby was rescued in Ughelli, Delta state.
The
28-year-old Pastor Okpara Emmanuel Chigozie of Believers Prayer
Ministry, Orji, Owerri, Imo state and other 25-year-old suspect Chinonye
Anufor are already in police detention.
A sum of N50m ransom was
requested from the parents of the baby by the Pastor and his cohorts and
have been negotiated downwards to N5million before the suspects were
rounded up.
Saturday Vanguard gathered that the detectives
trailed the fleeing suspects to Ughelli where a woman in whose custody
the baby was kept by the pastor was arrested.
After the baby girl was kidnapped in Akure, the Ondo state capital, the Pastor and other suspects fled to Balyesa state.
The
Police Image Maker Wole Ogodo told Saturday Vanguard exclusively that
the baby was rescued from the suspected member of the kidnap gang late
yesterday.
Ogodo added that the pastor kept the baby in the custody of the middle aged woman in Ughelli.
He
pointed out that acting on a tip-off, the detectives stormed the hide
out of the kidnappers where the woman and the baby were found.
The
Police spokesman said that the detectives after rescuing the baby
returned to the state with the baby at about 1am on Saturday.
It
will be recalled that while parading the Pastor and other suspected
criminals, the new Commissioner of Police Isaac Eke said the pastor was
arrested in his apartment.
Eke said detectives from the state CID
in Akure after the complaint was lodged swung into action and arrested
one 25-year- old Chinonye Anufor who led them to the apartment of the
Pastor in Owerri.
