The Chairman of the 10th Governing Council, Dr. E. M. I. Enemuo
on Thursday, March 13, 2014 performed the ground-breaking ceremony of
the FUTO Staff Quarters. This ceremony was in fulfillment of the desire
of the Governing Council to develop Housing Units for staff of the
University.
The ceremony commenced at 12.50 p.m. with an opening prayer said by
Engr. Dr. Remy Uche and formal introduction of the members of 10th
Governing Council, Deans, Directors and the Royal Father of the day, HRM
Eze Emmanuel Njemanze Ozuruigbo V of Owerri Nchi-ise.
In his address at the event, the Pro-Chancellor disclosed that the
desire of the 10th Governing Council was that all staff and students of
the University should be resident on campus, thereby creating an ideal
University community. He added that the project was in tandem with the
Vice-Chancellor’s mantra “Quest for Excellence”.
He expressed gratitude to the President of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria and Visitor to the University, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR
for his support to the growth and development of the educational system
in Nigeria which is part of his Transformation Agenda. He also thanked
the staff and students of the University for their meaningful
contribution.
The Pro-Chancellor enjoined members of the host communities to stop
their encroachment activities on FUTO land and allow the University to
develop for the benefit of all. He disclosed that FUTO land was duly
and legally acquired by the Federal Government with the University
representing the Federal Government of Nigeria. He advised members of
the host communities to allow peace to reign and warned that Management
might be forced to take drastic measures to stem the encroachment.
In his brief remarks at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor expressed
delight and gratitude to God for making the dream of bequeathing
befitting residential accommodation for staff of the University come
true. He disclosed that with the building of the quarters, the
productivity of the University staff would increase.
While urging all concerned to assist Management to ensure the
realization of the project, he thanked the Pro-Chancellor, members of
the Governing Council and Management for their support and
encouragement. He thanked His Royal Majesty, Eze Emmanuel Njemanze for
his royal support and encouragement.
In his vote of thanks, Prof. M. O. E. Iwuala, Director, Linkages and
Advancement Unit thanked the Pro-Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor and
invited guests for attending the ceremony. He disclosed that members of
the University community would keenly look forward to the commencement
and timely completion of the project. Prof. Iwuala assured that both
staff and students would continue to assist Management to realize its
goals.
The ceremony came to a close at 1.50 p.m. with a closing prayer said by Dr. (Mrs) J. C. Orji.
